Season 14 (Death Awakening) rewrote what Mythic means in Diablo 4. Mythic is no longer a rarity reserved for a shortlist of legacy drops; it is an item quality, and every Unique in the game can now wear it. A Unique can drop as a Mythic variant outright, or you can force the upgrade yourself through the Horadric Cube, the Jeweler, or the Blacksmith. The old chase items still exist as a separate club called Iconic Mythics, with their own rules.
This system replaced years of praying to Duriel's loot table with an actual crafting economy: Pandemonium Fragments for slot-targeted upgrades, Resplendent Sparks for pity crafts, and a seasonal boss whose cache pays better than anything else in the game. Learn the recipes and their small print, and a max-rolled Mythic in your weakest gear slot costs four Fragments instead of a hundred boss runs.
The rework (the community calls it Mythic 3.0) turns Mythic into a modifiable quality tier sitting on top of the Unique system. Any Unique that reaches Mythic quality gets three things automatically: it is always Ancestral, its Unique Power is amplified by 30%, and every other affix rolls at its maximum value. Nothing about the item's identity changes; a Mythic version of your favorite Unique is the same item with the dials turned to the top. Greater Affixes can appear too, never guaranteed.
Two supporting changes matter for crafters. Uniques, Mythics and Iconics all drop with two guaranteed affixes now instead of a fully random spread, so even the fodder you feed into recipes is predictable. And any affix added later through Enchanting, Transfiguration or Tempering lands at max roll on a Mythic, which means finishing a piece after the upgrade costs nothing in stat quality. The Occultist can also rewrite one unwanted affix on a Unique, Mythic or Iconic; Chaotic and Focused Reroll no longer accept this item class at all.
The quality system itself is an evergreen change and Mythic variants can drop on both Seasonal and Eternal realms. The Fragment economy that powers the cheap crafting route, though, is Season 14 content: it runs through Pandemonium Ruptures, the reputation board, and the seasonal boss.
The Upgrade to Mythic recipe is the headline: it transmutes a Unique of at least 850 Item Power into a random Mythic of the same gear slot. The recipe stays hidden until you are level 70 and playing on Torment I or higher, and it costs 4 Pandemonium Fragments per craft, down from the 5 it asked for at season launch.
The small print decides whether the recipe feels great or wasteful. Output is random within the slot pool: boots in, some pair of Mythic boots out. Feeding a specific Unique does not raise the odds of getting that same Unique back in Mythic form. The base is consumed whole, so every Greater Affix, masterwork rank and temper you put into it dies with it — a god-rolled input is the most expensive mistake in the system. One-handed weapons, offhands and shields count as a single category for the pool, so a Necromancer feeding a one-hander can get a Focus or a shield back. Mythics themselves are not valid input.
You can equip only one crafted Mythic Unique at a time. Mythics that dropped from monsters or came out of caches carry no such limit; stack as many as your build wants. The Crafted tag on the tooltip is what counts, and all three crafting routes stamp it, so the Cube, the Jeweler and the Blacksmith compete for the same single slot. Plan it around your unluckiest slot.
Pandemonium Fragments are the seasonal currency behind the Cube recipe, and every source of them runs through the Season 14 mechanic. Four channels exist:
| Source | What You Get |
|---|---|
| Corrupted Reaper | Up to 2 Fragments per kill, scaling with your Torment level, on top of the best direct Mythic drop odds in the game from its Hoard. |
| Reputation board | The repeatable Glints of Hope reward in Zarbinzet guarantees a Fragment every time you cash it in. |
| Sealing Ruptures | Fragments drop for closing Pandemonium Ruptures across Sanctuary, most densely inside Helltides. |
| Resplendent Caches | Seasonal caches carry Fragments alongside their other loot. |
The farm is one loop, and it starts in a Helltide. Kill what pours out of a Rupture to keep it open, then close it: that pays Glints of Hope for the Zarbinzet board, where the repeatable reward converts spare reputation into Fragments. The three Rupture types matter here. Normal Ruptures dot the overworld and never summon anything bigger. Surging Ruptures replace local Helltide events and can spawn a Realmwalker when you finish them with Mastery, while Colossal Ruptures only appear in the Fields of Desecration southeast of Zarbinzet and summon one every single time.
Kill the Realmwalker and a portal opens to the Deathtoll Chamber, the one-room dungeon that is the game's best source of Superior Lair Keys, guaranteed to pay at least one on high Torment. Nightmare Dungeons with the Rupture affix reach the same Chamber once you close enough Tears, so keys keep flowing when no Realmwalker is up. Two of those keys open the Corrupted Reaper's Hoard at the Pandemonium Threshold in Zarbinzet, and that is where Fragments and direct Mythic drops concentrate. Higher Torment pays better. Fight the Reaper at the highest tier you clear cleanly.
One quiet multiplier sits in the Season Blessings: the Urn of Death Awakening raises Glints of Hope income from every source. Spend your first Smoldering Ashes there if Mythic crafting is the season goal, since the bonus compounds over every Rupture you close afterwards.
Crafting with Fragments is the cheapest slot-targeted route, but Season 14 runs six Mythic pipelines side by side, and a build usually ends up fed by three or four of them at once.
| Method | Cost / Requirement | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Horadric Cube: Upgrade to Mythic | 850+ Unique + 4 Pandemonium Fragments | Random Mythic of the same slot, class-usable; tagged Crafted |
| Blacksmith: Mythic Unique Cache | 2 Resplendent Sparks + 50,000,000 gold | Random Iconic Mythic, El'Druin included since the mid-season patch; the only crafted route to one |
| Jeweler: slot craft | 3 Resplendent Sparks + the slot's three runes + 5,000,000 gold | Random Mythic of your chosen slot; Iconics excluded |
| Corrupted Reaper's Hoard | 2 Superior Lair Keys per opening | Best direct Mythic drop odds of any activity, plus the Fragments themselves |
| Natural drops | Torment I or higher | Rare chance whenever an Ancestral Unique would drop; Lair Bosses included, Iconic share raised mid-season |
| Season Rank track | Seasonal objectives across nine ranks | 5 class-specific Mythic Unique Caches plus up to 7 Resplendent Sparks |
The Jeweler sells aim. Every slot has its own recipe, each asking for 3 Resplendent Sparks, 5,000,000 gold and three named runes, and the result is a random Mythic restricted to that slot. Iconics are off this menu entirely — that is the trade for choosing where the item lands.
| Slot | Runes (3 of each) |
|---|---|
| 1-Handed Weapon | Eom, Lac, Ceh |
| 2-Handed Weapon | Igni, Zan, Teb |
| Helm | Jah, Que, Gar |
| Chest | Yom, Nagu, Tzic |
| Gloves | Bac, Noc, Moni |
| Pants | Ohm, Wat, Cem |
| Boots | Vex, Thul, Kry |
| Amulet | Yul, Noc, Qua |
| Ring | Tam, Mot, Yax |
No offhand row exists because offhands and shields ride along with one-handed weapons, exactly as they do in the Cube. Short a specific rune? The same vendor rerolls them: three copies of any one rune return a different rune of that quality, and Magic and Rare copies carry a 15% chance to come back a tier higher.
Sparks are the evergreen half of the economy, and they flow slower than Fragments. Salvaging any Mythic Unique at the Blacksmith returns 1 Resplendent Spark and unlocks the item's transmog, so duplicates are never dead loot. On top of that, the Season 14 rank track hands out up to 7 Sparks as you clear its objectives. The Alchemist will also transmute 7 Pandemonium Fragments into one Spark. Skip that one: the same Fragments buy a Cube craft for 4, and salvaging whatever falls out of it returns a Spark anyway. Spend Sparks after your Fragment budget runs dry, because Fragments regenerate from the seasonal loop and Sparks don't.
Iconic Mythics are the thirteen items that used to be the whole Mythic rarity: the old Uber Uniques plus El'Druin, Sword of Justice. They keep their fixed, build-warping powers, and Season 14 rebalanced several of them so the new crafted Mythics have room to compete; Harlequin Crest lost its damage reduction for two extra skill ranks, and Heir of Perdition went from an 80% damage buff to 15%. Their acquisition rules are stricter. The Jeweler can no longer target them, so Iconics come from natural drops, the Blacksmith's random cache, and seasonal reward caches.
| Item | Slot | Classes | Signature Power |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harlequin Crest | Helm | All | +6 Ranks to all Skills, no damage reduction since the season patch. Still the most famous helm in the game. |
| The Grandfather | 2H Sword | Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock | +120%[x] Critical Strike Damage, trimmed from 150% at season start. |
| Ring of Starless Skies | Ring | All | Spending Primary Resource cuts Skill costs and stacks 10%[x] damage, up to 50%[x]. |
| Heir of Perdition | Helm | All | Mother's Favor: 15%[x] damage that also steals 15% Critical Strike Chance from other players. |
| Shroud of False Death | Chest | All | Cheat death: full heal plus a Barrier for 100% of Maximum Life, once per trip to town. |
| Tyrael's Might | Chest | All | Divine barrage from your Skills at full Life, plus 20% damage reduction baked into the Mythic power. |
| Melted Heart of Selig | Amulet | All | Damage hits your Primary Resource before Life; resource doubled, Maximum Life cut by 75%. |
| Andariel's Visage | Helm | All | Lucky Hit: up to 20% for a poison nova dealing 40% of the damage dealt over 5 seconds. |
| Doombringer | 1H Sword | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock | Lucky Hit: up to 40% for 1,500 Shadow damage and 25% less enemy damage for 5 seconds. |
| El'Druin, Sword of Justice | 1H Sword | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock | Killing an Elite pack shaves 10 seconds off every Skill Cooldown for 12 seconds. |
| Shattered Vow | Polearm | Barbarian, Druid, Spiritborn | +120% Damage Over Time duration; executes enemies carrying more DoT than remaining Life. |
| Nesekem, the Herald | Glaive | Spiritborn | Marks a nearby enemy every 2 seconds: Vulnerable, guaranteed crits, until 10 hits clear it. |
| Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander | Staff | Druid, Sorcerer | Random Shrine effect for 20 seconds after an Elite kill, once every 30 seconds. |
Four Fragments per craft sounds cheap, and with the Corrupted Reaper dropping up to two per kill it is — the mistake budget just isn't zero. A few rules keep the economy working for you:
Four per Upgrade to Mythic craft, down from five at the season's launch. Add one 850+ Item Power Unique of the target slot as the base, and the Horadric Cube handles the rest.
No, one crafted Mythic at a time. The limit reads the Crafted tag on the tooltip, and everything you make at the Cube, the Jeweler or the Blacksmith carries it. Mythics from drops, boss Hoards or Season Rank caches don't count, so a full set of dropped Mythics plus one crafted piece is completely legal.
Only its gear slot matters. The output is a random Mythic from that slot's pool for your class, and feeding a specific Unique does not raise the chance of receiving its Mythic version. All affixes reroll to max and the base is consumed along with its masterwork ranks, so the cheapest 850+ Unique of the slot is the correct input every time.
No, Fragment crafts produce standard Mythics only. Iconics come from natural Mythic drops (their share was raised mid-season), the Blacksmith's Mythic Unique Cache, and seasonal reward caches. Fragment crafting fills a gear slot with a max-rolled Mythic; it never hunts a specific legacy item.
It depends on what you are missing. The Blacksmith takes 2 Sparks and 50,000,000 gold for a cache holding a random Iconic, which is the only crafted path to Harlequin Crest, The Grandfather and the rest of that club. The Jeweler charges 3 Sparks, 5,000,000 gold and the three runes for one slot, then rolls a standard Mythic inside it. Chasing a legacy item means the Blacksmith; filling a stubborn empty slot means the Jeweler.
Yes, for the whole system. The Upgrade to Mythic recipe requires level 70 in Torment, and Mythics cannot drop at all below Torment I. The Corrupted Reaper's Fragment payout scales with Torment level on top of that, so pushing tiers directly accelerates your crafting budget.
