Four different pieces of gear make up this set of items, spread across the three armor-crafting professions. As they are all Bind On Pickup and require skill in the respective profession to be worn, they seem to be Blizzard's attempt at making professions besides Engineering more appealing when it comes to pure character power.
Profession | Base Item | Void Infused Item | Effect |
Tailoring | Spidersilk Boots | Extraplanar Spidersilk Boots | Six seconds of 30% reduced damage taken and dealt, as well as a temporary 1000 threat reduction |
Leatherworking | Toughened Leather Gloves | Void-Touched Leather Gauntlets | Ten seconds of 10% increased spell damage, as well as increased threat generation |
Leatherworking | Toughened Leather Gloves | Void-Touched Leather Gloves | Ten seconds of 10% increased attack speed, as well as increased threat generation |
Blacksmithing | Shining Silver Breastplate | Shifting Silver Breastplate | 25% chance of applying a curse to attackers, which increases all damage taken by 2 |
First of all, you will need to find Dead Twilight Cultist at the coordinates 17, 26 in Ashenvale zone. There are currently three different dialogue paths available when interacting with it, and you will have to meet two separate conditions to listen to the successful outcome. To continue the quest chain, you need to have at least 100 skill in any of the three relevant professions (Tailoring, Leatherworking or Blacksmithing) and use an Elixir of Coalesced Regret before trying to interact with the corpse.
This is where you will find important clues for the next steps and hear about the story surrounding these items. In addition, unlocking the dialogue option for the second step is required, even though you do not directly get a quest from this step. As brought up in the previous dialogue, Old Serra'kis in Blackfathom Deeps raid is the key to this mystery as he is the only one able to withstand Crushing Darkness. This means that you will have to venture into the Blackfathom Deeps raid. There you will realize that he has already been slain. It seems as if the sinister entity we were warned about corrupted the turtles Serra'kis used to guard, causing them to devour him alive. Interacting with his corpse allows you to obtain a Handful of Shifting Scales, an important crafting reagent for the next step.
N'ora Anyheart is likely the only person who matches that description and is found in the Ratchet Inn. She will invent a protection for you. You will need to complete the Shifting Scale Talisman quest to collect a Handful of Shifting Scales, x40 Strange Dust, x5 Greater Magic Essence, x2 Small Glimmering Shard, and five gold. After you are done, you will get Shifting Scale Talisman.
Now that you have found a means of protecting yourself against the Void, you will have to look for a place only Old Serra'kis have previously resided in. This is the area underneath Twilight Lord Kelris sanctum and used to be the spawn point of the beast in the 5-man version of Blackfathom Deeps. Although swimming into it would otherwise afflict you with a stacking debuff that damages you and blurs your vision, Shifting Scale Talisman allows you to enter and loot the Artisan's Chest to obtain The Box.
If you have been questing in Hillsbrad Foothills, you might have already encountered Ardelle Dralta or Brave Stonetorch. These NPCs will tell you that they have traveled to this place in search of a massive light-wreathed stone that fell from the sky and crashed in the Alterac Mountains. As the Cultist and the tooltip of The Box hinted at The Light as the only way to cleanse its corruption, you will want to head to 89, 74 on the Alterac Mountains map and use the pillar to Destroyed The Box. Doing so will award you a single Shard of the Void for your future crafted item.
Communicating with the Shadowy Figure that spawns next to you is how you will learn the Void-Touched recipes as a reward for a job well done. Make sure to select the "Fine, show me. If only to stop your prattling." dialogue option, as the other one will lock you out of learning the recipes.
