Mimiron’s Head isn’t just any mount — it’s a legendary flying machine straight out of the mind of Ulduar’s most eccentric genius. This sleek, spinning marvel drops from Yogg-Saron, but only if you defeat him without the help of a single Keeper. And the kicker? The drop rate is painfully low — less than 1% per kill!
For mount collectors, this is one of the true crown jewels. Not only do you get a Feat of Strength achievement to show off, but you’ll also be riding one of the most visually unique and prestigious mounts in all of World of Warcraft. It hums, it spins, it screams, "I earned this!". So whether you’re chasing it out of love for mechanical mayhem, or you just want to flex on everyone in the main hub's center, we’ve got you covered. Follow our step-by-step guide and give yourself the best possible shot at adding this iconic beauty to your collection.
Mimiron's Head - How To Claim The Mount
Some players will get lucky and see Mimiron's Head drop within a few runs — others might farm Ulduar for years without so much as a whiff of it. Since the raid is weekly per character, your best shot is to run it on as many alts as possible... though let’s be honest, that’s more likely to lead to burnout than a quick drop.
What makes farming this mount especially tedious is the setup: you can’t just walk in and pull Yogg-Saron. You’ll need to clear your way through the entire raid, disable all four Keepers, and then hope RNG is on your side. Back in 2009, this was a full-scale challenge for a 25 man team. These days? You can solo it — but it still takes time.
Let’s break it all down:
- Travel to Ulduar: Ulduar is located in the northern Storm Peaks (Northrend). The raid entrance is at the large temple building with giant doors at ~41,18 in Storm Peaks. Fly there from Dalaran or use a teleport if you have one.
- 10 vs 25 Difficulty: Ulduar no longer has separate 10/25 modes – it’s a unified legacy raid scaling to group size. For mount farming, just zone in (the raid defaults to 25-player difficulty internally). You don’t need to toggle Heroic (as Ulduar’s hard modes are triggered by in-game methods, not UI switches).
- Clear Up to Yogg-Saron: just burn down Flame Leviathan and XT-002 Deconstructor, finish Kologarn who blocks the corridor and jump down after he dies, then Auriaya will likely aggro (also kill her).
- Bosses to just skip: Ignore Assembly of Iron, Razorscale, Ignis of Furnace Master.
- Preparing for Yogg-Saron (No Keepers): Before engaging Yogg-Saron, do not talk to any Keepers at the sigils outside his room. Normally, defeated Keepers can assist you in the fight if you ask, but for Mimiron’s Head to drop, you must fight Yogg with ZERO Keepers active. Ensure no assistance is enabled (the encounter should be labeled "Alone in the Darkness" if done right).
- Defeat The Keepers: You must defeat all four Keeper bosses (Hodir, Thorim, Freya, Mimiron) to unlock Yogg-Saron’s chamber. Take any order and don't worry about mechanics, as these bosses are pretty easy to just one-shot.
Clear your way through Ulduar, disable the Keepers, and face Yogg-Saron alone — or skip the weekly grind altogether by letting our team handle it for you.
Get Ready to Defeat Yog-Saron
Because even if you massively outlvl the boss nowadays, there are still mechanics that need to be done:
- Phase 1: You start unable to attack Yogg. Waves of adds (Faceless Guardians, Corrupter Tentacles, etc.) will spawn. Kill them quickly. Tip: There are floating green clouds – each cloud that an add touches spawns an extra add. You can actually purposely spawn additional adds if you need them for Yogg’s achievement, but otherwise avoid triggering too many. Kill adds until the phase transitions. (At solo with no Keepers, about 8 adds need to die to move on).
- Sanity: With no Keeper Freya, you have 100 Sanity max and no way to restore it mid-fight. Avoid looking at Yogg-Saron’s laughter skulls overhead (look away or kill them) because they drain sanity. If your sanity hits 0, you go Insane (become mind-controlled).
- Phase 2: Yogg’s brain becomes attackable through portals. When portals to the brain open, click one to enter. Inside, quickly kill the Brain of Yogg-Saron. If you don’t kill the brain within one minute, you’ll be ported out and lose a chunk of Sanity, but with today’s damage you should one-phase it easily. Note: The brain room has creepily themed scenarios – just run to the brain and DPS it down. Clearing it in one round will push to phase 3.
- Phase 3: at 30% health Yogg-Saron himself becomes targetable. He will summon immortal guardians and cast random abilities, but you can mostly ignore everything and burn him down. Without Keeper Thorim, Yogg won’t be slowed, but again your damage is high. Finish off Yogg-Saron and the fight will end.
Loot Yogg’s Cache: If you met all the requirements, Yog-Saron will drop a special chest that will contain a chance at Mimiron’s Head drop. The drop is not guaranteed (it’s less than 1% chance), so cross your fingers!
Tips for Farming Mimiron’s Head
Farming Mimiron’s Head can be a test of patience — but with the right tricks up your sleeve, you can seriously boost your odds. Here are some top tips to help you streamline your runs and make every attempt count:
- Verify 0 Keepers: The most common mistake is accidentally leaving a Keeper aid on. Double-check that none of the Keeper lights are green before pulling Yogg. The fight difficulty text should read "No Lights (Alone in the Darkness)".
- Multiple Alts: Just like Invincible, use more characters to maximize attempts. Each character can clear Ulduar and kill Yogg once per week. The mount only drops in this 0-Keeper mode (btw, used to be 100% drop in 2009, now it’s a tiny chance), so more kills = more chances.
- Yogg-Saron’s Mechanics: If something goes wrong (e.g. you somehow go insane by hitting 0 Sanity), Yogg will reset. This is rare now. Just be slightly careful in phase 1 to avoid too many clouds (overwhelming adds) and kill the brain fast in phase 2 so you don’t have to deal with sanity loss or extra tentacles.
- Achievements: Killing Yogg with no keepers will also give you the achievement "Alone in the Darkness" and the meta-achievement achieve (a Feat of Strength achievement). Nice bonus!
Put these tips into action and you might just charm Mimiron’s Head into dropping faster than you think. After all, luck favors the persistent.
Other Methods To Obtain Mimiron's Head
Really set on that mount? There are also some sneakier (but totally effective) ways to make it yours:
Timewalking Bonus Cache: Got Wrath Timewalking on your calendar? Then keep an eye out for the weekly Ulduar quest — usually called "Disturbance Detected: Ulduar". Completing it can reward a Cache of Timewarped Treasures, which has a chance to drop none other than Mimiron’s Head (and even Invincible’s Reins). Many players have reported better drop luck from this cache than the raid itself — so when Wrath Timewalking is live, run Ulduar on every alt you’ve got for extra chances at these legendary mounts!
Black Market Auction House: Every now and then, Mimiron's Head pops up on the BMAH — but brace yourself: the starting bid usually hovers around 2–3 million gold, and bidding wars can skyrocket it to a jaw-dropping 8–14 million gold!. It's not for the faint of heart (or light of wallet), but hey — it’s one of the rarest and most prestigious mounts in the game. You can spot the BMAH in places like Ta’xera’s stall in Revendreth or the Night Market in Valdrakken. If you're rolling in gold and feeling bold, this could be your shot... just know you're not the only one watching it like a hawk.
The easiest way to skip the tedious Ulduar grind or the BMAH competition is to let our PROs help you — they’ll get you the coveted mount faster than you ever imagined!
