How To Get Invincible Mount in The War Within 11.1.5

Updated 25 Apr 2025 | Author: Poizy | ~6 min

Invincible, Arthas’s undead steed, is a rare flying mount that drops from the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel. It only drops on 25-player Heroic difficulty, with less than a 1% chance per kill!

Obtaining Invincible awards players with a Feat of Strength achievement, a cool looking mount (obviously) and serious bragging rights amongst mount collectors. So stay tuned as we share with a step-by-step guide so you can get this precious beast "fast" and easy.

Invincible - How To Obtain The Mount

Invincible

Some players will get lucky and get the mount within a few attempts, while others may not see it even after running the raid for years. Icecrown Citadel can be farmed once per week per character. You can have several characters parked outside the raid and run it several times a week, but this is more likely to give you burnout than a mount.

Step 1: Get to Lich King

What makes farming Invincible even more tedious is that you can't just fight the Lich King — you have to clear every boss leading up to him. Back in 2010, this took a full raid of skilled, dedicated players. Now? You can solo the entire place. Let’s break it down:

  • Travel to Icecrown Citadel: Head to Icecrown in Northrend (the raid entrance is at the frozen spire at Icecrown Glacier). You can port to Dalaran or use a Northrend wormhole, then fly to ICC’s entrance at the base of the Citadel.
  • Set the Raid Difficulty: Before entering the ICC, don't forget to set the raid difficulty to 25 player Heroic.
  • Lord Marrowgar / Lady Deathwhisper: No issues – burn them down.
  • Gunship Battle: Talk to the NPC to start the fight. Jump into a cannon and shoot the enemy gunship as fast as possible. If the cannon freezes, use the rocket pack to jump over, kill the mage on the enemy ship, then return and continue firing. With high level damage you should be able to end this event quickly. (If you don’t DPS the ship fast enough solo, the fight can really drag on).
  • Deathbringer Saurfang: Easy kill. Wait a few RP moments after Gunship for Saurfang to become attackable.
  • Plagueworks & Professor Putricide: Kill them before any mechanics matter.
  • Blood Prince Council & Blood-Queen Lana’thel: No significant issues as Queen’s bite mechanic can be ignored if you nuke her.
  • Valithria Dreamwalker: If you do not have any healing abilities, it is best to skip this encounter. The door is open behind her, so you can just proceed onward to Sindragosa.
  • Sindragosa: Just avoid her brief air phase mechanics; burn her quickl.

Defeat all of the Lich King’s lieutenants and ascend to the top of Icecrown Citadel — or skip the weekly grind entirely by letting our team handle it for you.

Step 2: Kill the damn Arthas

You've finally arrived at your destination (though this moment might repeat hundreds of times depending on your luck). Now it’s time to take down Arthas Menethil himself — a boss who hasn’t posed a real threat for over 15 years, either in World of Warcraft’s lore or gameplay. Still, you can speed things up by following these guidelines:

  • Phase 1, he’ll cast Infest and summon adds – not a big deal, just DPS him down to 70% to trigger the transition.
  • Phase Transitions: The Lich King becomes immune and moves to the center. You’ll be stuck fighting a few Raging Spirits and ice orbs. Kill the spirits quickly. Once the platform reappears, continue DPS.
  • Phase 2: Lich King will spawn Val’kyr adds that try to carry you off the platform. Since you're playing solo you'll get grabbed by a Val’kyr and risk being dropped to your death. Prevent this by burning the Lich King’s health rapidly or killing the Val’kyr the moment it spawns. Ideally, push him into the final phase before a Val’kyr can grab you. If one does grab you, use any immunity or stun (if available) on the Val’kyr to make it drop you early.
  • Phase 3: At 10%, the Fury of Frostmourne will fire – a scripted wipe mechanic. Don’t panic: Tirion will save you. Just wait through the short RP scene. When Arthas becomes targetable again (he’ll be stunned), finish him off with one hit. Congratulations! Loot the corpse and cross your fingers for Invincible’s Reins.

Repeat Weekly: You can run ICC 25 Heroic once a week for a tiny chance to receive Invincible.

Alternative Methods To Obtain Invincible

If you're really eager to get the mount you can also consider more tricky ways of getting it:

Timewalking Bonus Cache: During Wrath Timewalking events, check if there is a weekly Timewalking Ulduar Raid quest. In past events, the quest "Disturbance Detected: Ulduar" awarded a Cache of Timewarped Treasures that has a chance to contain Invincible’s Reins (and also Mimiron’s Head). Players have reported higher drop rates from this cache than from the raid itself! So when Wrath Timewalking is up, be sure to run Ulduar Timewalking on as many characters as possible for extra shots at Invincible.

Black Market Auction House: Invincible’s Reins can occasionally appear for auction on the BMAH. In most cases even the starting price is around 2-3 million gold and the final one can reach up to 10-15 million gold! Don't be shocked though, as the mount is truly unique and elite. You can find the BMAH in various spots (e.g. Ta’xera in Revendreth in Shadowlands, or Valdrakken’s Night Market in Dragonflight). If you’re extremely rich in gold, this is a way to buy Invincible – but expect an enormous competition of people checking the BMAH all day long.

The easiest way to skip the tedious Icecrown Citadel grind or the BMAH competition is to let our PROs help you — they’ll get you the coveted mount faster than you ever imagined!
