Meeting Khadgar in Shattrath City
The next step of your Karazhan attunement takes you to Shattrath City, where you report to Archmage Khadgar and officially start the main part of the The Master's Key questline. This meeting shifts the attunement into a much larger storyline, introducing new objectives, required dungeon clears, and several follow-up tasks that connect the events in Outland with the mysteries surrounding Karazhan. From this point onward, the chain becomes noticeably longer and more involved, guiding you through some of the most important locations and characters in the expansion and turning what looked like a simple errand into a multi-step commitment that is easy to underestimate.
- Khadgar - to obtain this quest, fly to Alterac Mountains and talk to Archmage Cedric in Dalaran on the northern side of the ruined city.
- Shattrath City - travel to this city in Outland and locate Archmage Khadgar on the central terrace.
- Khadgar - turn in this quest and accept Entry Into Karazhan. From this point on, Khadgar will guide you through the core of the attunement chain.

First Key Fragment in Shadow Labyrinth
The attunement requires you to assemble three key fragments from level 70 dungeons, each protected by powerful foes and hidden deep within their respective wings. The first fragment is located in Shadow Labyrinth in Terokkar Forest, where you must progress through the entire instance and defeat multiple bosses to reach the guarded container. - Shadow Labyrinth - head to Auchindoun in Terokkar Forest and enter this instance.
- Shadow Labyrinth Key - if your group does not have this key, it can be obtained in Sethekk Halls by defeating Talon King Ikiss and looting the chest that spawns behind him. The key is not strictly required to zone in, but it makes future runs smoother.
- Murmur - clear Shadow Labyrinth as usual until you reach the final boss room where this boss resides.
- Arcane Container - on the outer ring of Murmur's platform you will find this object. When you open it, a level 70 elite First Fragment Guardian will spawn.
- First Key Fragment - defeat the guardian and loot this fragment from its corpse.
- Khadgar in Shattrath - return to him and hand in the quest. He will offer The Second and Third Fragments as the next step.

The second fragment sends you into The Steamvault, a level 70 wing of Coilfang Reservoir that is noticeably longer and more demanding than earlier dungeons in the chain. You will need a coordinated group to deal with the dense trash packs, patrols, and boss mechanics while progressing toward the fragment’s location. For many players, especially those with weaker gear, this step can turn into a slow and punishing crawl, making good preparation and a reliable party extremely valuable.
- The Steamvault - travel to this dungeon in Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh.
- Hydromancer Thespia - early in the instance, near this first boss, there is a pool of water with an Arcane Container at the bottom.
- Second Fragment Guardian - open the container to spawn this mob, defeat it, and loot the Second Key Fragment.

The third fragment is located in The Arcatraz above Netherstorm, which is normally locked. Access to the instance requires the Key to the Arcatraz, but only one player in the party needs it and can open the door for everyone, so you can still enter without your own key if you join a group with someone who already has it. A flying mount is mandatory to reach the Arcatraz entrance, as you cannot be summoned there by a warlock and must fly up to the platform yourself.
- Consortium Crystal Collection - go to Area 52 in Netherstorm and speak to Nether-Stalker Khay'ji to accept this quest. The Arklon Crystal Artifact drops from Pentatharon at the Arklon Ruins.
- A Heap of Ethereals - loot 10 Zaxxis Insignia from the Zaxxis Raiders and Stalkers at The Heap south of Area 52, then take Warp-Raider Nesaad and kill him in the same area.
- Request for Assistance - after completing Warp-Raider Nesaad, accept this quest and follow it to Gahruj in Eco-Dome Midrealm in central Netherstorm. From there you receive Rightful Repossession for Manaforge Duro.
- Triangulation Point One and Triangulation Point Two - after returning the Box of Surveying Equipment, travel to Stormspire and talk to the Image of Nexus-Prince Haramad to start these triangulation quests.
- Full Triangle - use the Triangulation Device at the specified mana forges, then return to Stormspire and accept this quest, which sends you to kill Culuthas in the Ruins of Farahlon and loot the Ata'mal Crystal.
- Special Delivery to Shattrath City - bring the crystal back to Stormspire, then deliver it to A'dal in Shattrath City with this quest. A'dal gives you How to Break Into the Arcatraz, which requires two shards:
- Key to the Arcatraz - return both shards to A'dal to receive this key.

The final key fragment is located inside The Arcatraz above Netherstorm. The entrance is locked, but only one party member needs the key to open the door for everyone. A flying mount is required to reach the platform, since warlock summons are not possible. Once your group gains access, continue inside to secure the last key fragment.
- The Arcatraz - with the Arcatraz key in hand, head to this instance entrance in Netherstorm.
- Zereketh the Unbound - proceed through the dungeon until after this first boss. In the room with the voidwalker packs you will find another Arcane Container in one of the corners.
- Third Fragment Guardian - interact with the container to summon this mob, kill it, and loot the Third Key Fragment.
- Archmage Khadgar - return to him in Shattrath City once again and turn in the quest. He will now send you to the Caverns of Time to finish the attunement with The Master's Touch.

The final part of the Karazhan attunement takes place in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. You must complete the Old Hillsbrad Foothills dungeon and then clear The Black Morass while protecting Medivh.

Your next objective sends you into the Old Hillsbrad Foothills dungeon in the Caverns of Time. Speak to the bronze dragonflight NPCs at the entrance, follow the setup storyline, and complete the escort inside to unlock access to this timeline. This step continues Khadgar's investigation and is required before you can proceed to The Black Morass.
- Caverns of Time - travel to this location in Tanaris. At the entrance you will find the Steward of Time, who offers To The Master's Lair.
- Andormu - locate this NPC further inside and accept The Caverns of Time. Follow the Custodian of Time as it walks you through the history tour. Stay near the NPC until the RP sequence ends and the quest completes.
- Old Hillsbrad - Andormu will now offer this quest, which unlocks access to the Old Hillsbrad Foothills dungeon.
Completing Old Hillsbrad
Inside Old Hillsbrad Foothills, your goal is to assist Thrall during his escape from Durnholde Keep. Follow the storyline events, defeat the required bosses, and ensure the escort succeeds to complete the attunement step and unlock the next dungeon in the chain.
- Old Hillsbrad Foothills - enter this dungeon and talk to Erozion inside the instance. He gives you Taretha's Diversion, which requires you to use the Pack of Incendiary Bombs on the internment lodges in the camp.
- Lieutenant Drake - after igniting the buildings and defeating this first boss, continue up to Durnholde Keep, go into the basement, and talk to Thrall.
- Taretha's Diversion - make sure every party member has turned in this quest before picking up the escort quest that follows.
- Escape from Durnholde - accept this escort quest and escort Thrall through the dungeon. He will fight several waves of enemies and eventually face Epoch Hunter.
- Return to Andormu - when Epoch Hunter dies and the RP finishes, turn the quest in to Erozion. He sends you back to Andormu with this follow-up.
The Black Morass and Medivh
In The Black Morass, you will defend Medivh as he opens the Dark Portal. Stop the invading Infinite Dragonflight forces, defeat all required bosses, and ensure the event completes successfully. This will finalize the Caverns of Time portion of the Karazhan attunement questline.
- The Black Morass - after handing in the Old Hillsbrad quests, Andormu offers this quest, which unlocks the Black Morass dungeon behind the next portal.
- Sa'at - enter The Black Morass and speak to this NPC inside the instance to complete the access quest.
- Medivh - start the event and defend him as he channels the spell that opens the Dark Portal. You must defeat waves of enemies and three bosses in sequence while keeping Medivh alive.
- The Master's Touch - when the final boss is dead and the event is complete, talk to Medivh to finish this quest.
- Return to Khadgar - Medivh then gives you this quest, which sends you back to Shattrath City.

Completing Your Karazhan Attunement
