In this guide, we will walk you step by step through leveling Engineering from 1 to 375 in The Burning Crusade Classic without frantic farming routes, endless travel, or wasted materials. Every stage is designed around the Auction House: what to buy, when to craft it, and how to move through each skill bracket as smoothly and comfortably as possible. A single Adamantite Grenade can lock down a trash pack, save a tank on a bad pull, or turn a near wipe into a smug, controlled victory.

The heart of Engineering is utility stapled to damage. Gnomish-style goggles offer raid-level stats long before most players touch tier gear, giving you an early ticket into Karazhan and beyond. This gives them a noticeable head start when leveling the profession and lets them reach key recipe thresholds slightly earlier than other races, even though no other racial traits directly affect Engineering skill.

Any class in the game can train Engineering, but it is especially valuable for Hunters, since being able to craft their own guns, scopes, and ammo-related gadgets ties in perfectly with their gameplay. It is also an outstanding profession for dedicated PvPers, because its bombs, grenades, trinkets, and other devices provide extra crowd control, burst damage, and disruptive tools that have very strong PvP applications.

The Engineering goggles available in Outland are excellent pieces of gear for virtually every specialization, and versions of these goggles can be crafted for any class or race that meets the profession requirements. 1 – 300

In Burning Crusade Classic Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan Engineering can all be learned from profession trainers in every major capital. You no longer need to travel between multiple specialists for different ranks, which makes leveling the profession much more straightforward.

To advance into the new TBC Engineering ranks, you will need to visit the Master Engineering trainers located in Outland. These NPCs teach the 300–375 skill range and serve as your main point of progression for endgame Engineering recipes.

Flying Machine Trainers

The schematics for the Flying Machine Control and the Turbo-Charged Flying Machine Control are taught by just two dedicated Engineering trainers, both located in Shadowmoon Valley. These NPCs only offer these specific recipes, with the basic Flying Machine available at skill level 350 and the Turbo-Charged upgrade unlocked at skill level 375.

Goggle Trainers

The schematics for the Epic-quality Engineering goggles can likewise be learned from only two trainers, both stationed in Hellfire Peninsula. These trainers teach the goggle recipes at Engineering skill level 350, and there is a specialized set of goggles for every armor type and combat role combination.

Start by purchasing a Blacksmith Hammer from a Blacksmithing supplies vendor, who is usually found close to the Blacksmithing trainer in your faction’s major city. If you cannot locate a dedicated supplies vendor, you can also buy the hammer from most general goods or trade goods vendors scattered around capital cities and some smaller hubs.

Materials Needed for Engineering in TBC Classic

To train Engineering from skill level 1 all the way up to 375 in Burning Crusade Classic, you will need to stock up on a substantial amount of crafting materials. The materials listed below represent a consolidated shopping list for the full leveling process, so you can visit the Auction House, buy everything in bulk, and avoid interrupting your leveling route later.

However, because Engineering skill-ups are tied to recipe colors (orange, yellow, green, and gray) and a bit of randomness, it is impossible to guarantee an exact material count in advance. This list provides an estimated average of what most players will need, but your personal results may vary: with lucky streaks you may end up with leftovers, while a run of bad luck can force you to purchase a few extra stacks to reach 375.

Vendor Recipes

In Burning Crusade Classic, profession recipes sold by vendors are no longer limited-quantity items, so you do not have to camp their spawn or compete with other players to buy them. However, these Engineering schematics are now bind-on-pickup, which means they cannot be traded or listed on the Auction House. If you want them for your character, you must physically travel to the appropriate vendor and purchase each recipe yourself.

Alliance engineers can obtain the required vendor recipes from Feera in the Exodar (/way 53.0, 90.0), while Horde engineers will find their counterparts at Yatheon in Silvermoon City (/way 75.8, 40.6). These vendors cover the faction-specific schematics you will rely on during the leveling process.

There are also two important neutral schematics available to both factions in Shattrath City: Schematic: White Smoke Flare, sold by Wind Trader Lathrai (/way 72.6, 31.6), and Schematic: Adamantite Rifle, sold by Viggz Shinesparked (/way 64.8, 69.6). Make a point to pick these up as soon as you reach Outland, since they unlock some of the most efficient recipes for pushing your Engineering skill to its maximum.

Dropped Recipes

Besides the vendor-bought schematics, there is one important bind-on-pickup drop you will need for the final stretch of Engineering levels from roughly 370 to 375. The schematic in question cannot be traded or purchased on the Auction House, so every Engineer must secure their own copy.

Schematic: Field Repair Bot 110G drops with reasonable frequency for Engineers from Gan'arg Analyzers in Blade's Edge Mountains, in the areas north and south of Ogri'la. These demons patrol platforms and ridges that are only accessible with a flying mount, so make sure you have flight unlocked before you set out to farm them. Once obtained, the schematic can be learned at Engineering skill 360, giving you a reliable and efficient recipe to finish off your leveling.

From 1 to 300

Heavy Blasting Powder, Whirring Bronze Gizmo, and Bronze Framework are all core components needed to craft Explosive Sheep. Because these recipes will be yellow or even green for part of this bracket, the exact number of skill points you gain from crafting them can fluctuate, but in most cases you should end up close to, or slightly above, skill level 160 after finishing the full batch. If you are still short of 160 when you are done, simply prepare enough extra materials to make a few additional Explosive Sheep until you reach the desired skill level.

Just like the Arclight Spanner you crafted earlier, the Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor is a permanent Engineering tool that certain recipes require in order to be crafted. You only need to make it once, but you should keep it safely in your bags, as you will be using it repeatedly whenever those specialized recipes appear in your rotation later on.

You will need at least 60 Solid Blasting Powder for the recipes in this section and for later crafts. If you do not reach Engineering skill level 195 after completing the steps below, simply produce a few extra batches of Solid Blasting Powder until you hit the desired level.

From 300 to 375

You will need a healthy reserve of Handful of Fel Iron Bolts, Fel Iron Casing, and Elemental Blasting Powder for several of the high-level Engineering crafts that follow, so this segment focuses on stockpiling those components while pushing your skill from 300 up toward 355. Once any of these recipes turn grey for you, feel free to stop mass-producing them and only craft additional pieces when later steps specifically call for them.

After moving on to Adamantite Frame, aim to make around 30 crafts to reach roughly 335; if you are still short of that mark, you can bridge the gap by crafting a few Adamantite Grenade instead. Finally, because White Smoke Flare remains yellow or green throughout its entire bracket, the exact number you need will vary with RNG, and you may end up crafting slightly more or fewer than the suggested amount before you finish the final levels.

You should plan to craft at least 5 Khorium Power Core for the final 370–375 stretch. These cores alone are unlikely to push your Engineering skill all the way to 360, but that is not a problem – once you have them prepared, move straight into crafting Adamantite Rifle, which will serve as your main leveling recipe from 360 onward and consume the stock of components you have built up in previous steps.

After reaching 370, you will switch to crafting Field Repair Bot 110G to finish off the profession. Because this recipe is already yellow at 370, the number of points you gain from the recommended crafts can vary slightly depending on your luck. If you are still short of 375 when you are done, simply make one or two additional Field Repair Bot 110G until you hit maximum skill.
