FFXIV Gil Farming Guide

Updated 17 Jul 2026 | Author: Kir | ~7 min

Final Fantasy XIV players don't say time is money. Everybody knows that time is Gil. And in this guide, we'll tell you how to spend your time efficiently and farm the maximum amount of currency with the minimum amount of effort. So, fasten your seat belts and dive into our Final Fantasy 14 Gil farming overview to explore the best strategies for providing your character with the main in-game currency.

Final Fantasy 14 Gil Currency Overview

Gil is the first currency players encounter when diving into Final Fantasy 14. The very first quests in the game reward players with a small amount of Gil, and later on, this currency can be obtained from dungeon and raid runs, FATEs completions, open-world activities, or trading with other players via the Market Board, for example. The maximum amount of Gil is 999,999,999 per player and per retainer. As for the Free Trial, there is a 300,000 limit.

Spending Gil isn't an issue either. The currency is used for buying housing items, gear pieces, food and potions for demanding PvE content, and a wide range of cosmetics like glamour, minions, and mounts. Finding a goal to spend your Gil on is an easy task. Finding an efficient way to farm it is a much harder one.

Final Fantasy 14 Gil Farming Methods

There are several farming methods you can choose from, depending on your preferences. But all of them follow a standard formula: the more effort you put in, the more Gil per hour you can earn. In the table below, you'll find the most common methods, the effort involved, and the approximate amount of currency you can get.

Farm Method Effort Level Gil per Hour
Crafting High 1M-3M
Daily Roulettes Medium 500K
Deep Dungeons Medium 300K-600K
Gathering Medium 500K-1M
Levequests Medium 200K-500K
FATEs Low 250K-500K
Market Board Flipping Low Flexible

In the text below, we'll explore all of these methods in detail. If you've already spotted something that interests you, feel free to jump to that specific section of the guide.

Crafting Gil Farming

While everyone has access to leveling crafting professions, not every player wants to spend their free time on this part of the game. For many players, the Market Board replaces the need to craft, which allows another group of players to earn Gil by selling crafted items. As mentioned in the table above, this farming method is the most efficient, especially at the start of new content. On the other hand, it requires a greater time investment, tracking prices, and acquiring additional items for your professions.

When farming Gil through crafting, you'll mostly sell armor pieces, food, and potions that players use to conquer raids. The highest possible prices for these items can be seen in the days following the release of new raids.

Daily Roulettes Gil Farming

Another great option for farming Gil is completing daily Duty Roulette tasks. All you have to do is open your Duty Finder and check the active random challenge; it may require you to complete dungeons, trials, or Main Story Quests, for example. Complete the current duty and move on to the next - it's a solid and steady way to farm Gil.

The main rule is not to skip this source on a daily basis. In addition to the up to 500K Gil per hour you can earn, your character will also be rewarded with extra EXP points.

Deep Dungeons Gil Farming

If you don't mind repetitive roguelike content, you can choose Deep Dungeon runs for Gil farming. Players can access this type of content starting from level 17 in the Main Story Quest, and it's a good choice for solo players.

All you have to do is head to dungeons like Palace of the Dead, Heaven-on-High, and Eureka Orthos, and clear randomly generated floors in search of hidden treasures. Depending on your luck, you can find various items to sell and even rare glamour pieces you can exchange for a large amount of Gil via the Market Board.

Be aware that to maximize the amount of Gil per hour, you should complete only floors 1-10 of the Deep Dungeons and then start again from floor 1. Higher floors can be more challenging without rewarding you with a larger amount of Gil. In most cases, you'll need about 20 minutes to clear floors 1-10 and loot two bronze sacks on average.

Gathering Gil Farming

Like crafting, this method allows you to earn larger amounts of currency at the start of new content, when players need new gear, food, and potions to empower their characters before all the tactics are learned. Also, some content updates bring new resources to the game, which can be especially valuable at first.

Sure, this method is pretty time-consuming, but it's a great option for solo players.

Levequests Gil Farming

Levequests are a repeatable form of quest in FFXIV that players can complete over and over as many times as they want. The main rewards for completing Levequests are EXP points and Gil.

If your character has some crafting or gathering skills, Levequests become even more profitable: you can complete class-specific quests to acquire high-quality crafted items or materials and then exchange them for Gil. Even better - you can use cheap materials to obtain high-quality items that sell for more.

This method is a great option for steadily farming Gil every day. And while it's a time-consuming task as well, it can be a great fit for solo players.

FATEs Gil Farming

FATEs (Full Active Time Events) are a type of content found in FFXIV's overworld zones, Field Operation zones, and Lifestyle Content zones, based on dynamic scenarios like boss fights or escort missions. The main rewards players earn from completing FATEs are EXP points, Gil, and Grand Company seals or Bicolor Gemstones.

Importantly, you can complete FATEs while leveling your character, and in addition to the Gil you earn from completing the events themselves, you can exchange the Bicolor Gemstones you collect for a wide range of valuable items - such as vouchers - which can easily be sold on the Market Board. You can sell vouchers for 150,000-180,000 Gil, while acquiring them requires 100 Bicolor Gemstones per voucher.

Another plus of this method is that you can usually find a party to complete FATEs faster, saving your energy for other in-game adventures.

Market Board Flipping Gil Farm

It's a living classic that can be found in FFXIV, World of Warcraft, or even in real life. Long story short: find items on the Market Board at a low price and sell them for much higher. In some cases, you can find items priced extremely low due to a mistake and grab extra profit in just a few clicks. In other cases, you'll need to aggressively buy up a wide range of items on the Market Board to dominate the market and dictate your own terms.

While this method can be somewhat passive at times, it requires you to know the market very well, because it works best with high-demand items: glamour gear, rare materials, or popular crafted goods.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to efficiently farm Gil in Final Fantasy 14. You can choose a passive method, dive into dungeon action, or peacefully gather materials and craft in-demand items. We hope our guide has made your choice easier.
